'Let protests reflect humanity'
ITANAGAR, Feb 08: While extending wholehearted support to the civil society including all NGOs, youth bodies and organisations for their protests to demand justice for Nido Tania, his mother Marina Nido made a fervent appeal to one and all to conduct it peacefully without blaming any leader or political party by name.
"Such protests should reflect humanity without any political colour and casting aspersion so that it serves its purpose, instead of getting diverted from the cause," she said to justify her plea.
Mori Riba passes away
ITANAGAR, Feb 08: Mori Riba, son of former Chief Minister Late Tomo Riba died in a hospital at Guwahati early morning today.
Mori, 48, is survived by his wife Tumbom Ingo Riba, two daughters and a son.
Born on February 15, 1966, at Daring village of West Siang district, Late Mori was a dynamic public leader and social activist.
Meanwhile, Ego Bango Capital Complex Intellectual Youth Forum, Ego Banggo Youth Association and Daring Area Students Union expressed deep shock at the demise of Mori Riba. The organizations prayed to the Almighty for enough strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.
Late Mori was a senior Galo member, the Galo society has lost a visionary and kind hearted man with the death of Mori, said GWS in a condolence message. The Society deeply mourned the death of Mori Riba and conveyed condolence to bereaved family.
KVK training
ITANAGAR, Feb 08: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Lower Subansiri district organized a training cum demonstration programme on "Application of mulching for enhancing yield and quality of fruits and vegetables" at Siiro village yesterday. Shashi Kant Chaturvedi, SMS (Horticulture) trained to farmers on application of mulching in fruits and vegetable. He also explained the farmers how the mulching can be useful for enhancing the yield and quality of fruits and vegetables.
Yowa Nunu, SMS (Agronomy) encouraged to farmers for using black polythene mulch for weed control and early harvest in vegetables. He also demonstrated the method of polythene mulching.
Altogether 16 farmers participated in the training cum demonstration.
Army recruitment rally at Likabali
ITANAGAR, Feb 08: Indian Army will be conducting a recruitment rally for Soldier General Duty from March 3 to 9, 2014 at Likabali Military Station, West Siang district.
The recruitment rally for the candidates from Lohit, Anjaw, Lower Dibang Valley, Dibang Valley, Upper Siang, West Siang and East Siang, Upper Subansiri, Lower Subansiri, Papum Pare and Tawang districts will be held on March 3 March and East Kameng, West Kameng and Kurung Kumey, Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts on March 4. It will be held for candidates of all the districts, Ex Servicemen in DSC, Sons of War Widows/Widows, Outstanding Sportsmen, NCC Certificate holders on March five.

AKKDYO expresses concern
ITANAGAR, Feb 08: The All Kurung Kumey District Youth Organization (AKKDYO) has expressed concern over the functioning of various government departments in the district.
In a release while informing that it made an extensive visit across the district, it said that the famous archeological site at Parsi Parlo is not being developed at all and that there are no ATM facilities at Koloriang.

AAPLU EK asks DA to provide relied to fire victim

Relief distributed to fire victims
ITANAGAR, Feb 08: Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB) Chairman Nyamar Karbak today distributed relief materials to the February 2 fire victims of Gemo Tali village under Kamba ADC headquarters of West Siang district.
The relief materials were provided to the victims by Karbak voluntarily and distributed them with help of local committee.
He also assured to extend every possible help to the victims for their early resettlement and assured to take up the matter with the state government for establishment of separate fire station at Kamba circle at the earliest.
While expressing shock over the unfortunate incident, he appealed to the people of the area to be cautious when handling fire to avoid such kind of incidents in near future.
He said that he will pursue the matter with the West Siang Deputy Commissioner and Kamba ADC for proper assessment of properties lost and damaged so that state government can provide the necessary relief (s) to the victims as per the laid down norms, said the APB&OCWWB Chairman.
The relief items included household items, blankets, helmets, plastic/gaon boots etc. Rs. 40,000 was also given only to each family.
Relief materials were also distributed among the July 27, 2013 fire victims of Kamba Medical Complex.

Press bodies react to SUMA diktat
ITANAGAR, Feb 08: In what can best be described as an attempt to curb press freedom and dictate terms to the media in the state, members of the Students' Union Movement of Arunachal (SUMA) on Friday evening gheraoed the office of 'The Arunachal Times' and issued verbal threats to one of its journalists.
Reacting to a news item which appeared on the February 7 issue of the newspaper under

SUMA members were opposed to the claim made by the NESO adviser. Reminding SUMA of its repeated offences against the media, the APC and APUWJ in its notice addressed to its president Biri Tabing said that "this is not the first time that the SUMA members have behaved in such abusive manner towards press persons of the state. It is to be reminded here that, slogans were shouted against press persons during a SUMA rally at Niti Vihar, abusive words were used against a lady journalist by a member of SUMA, verbal threats were used against the Arunachal Press Club president and outstanding advertisement dues of more than a year remains to be paid to media houses by SUMA".
A joint statement by the APC and APUWJ condemning the entire episode questioned whether SUMA is "financially backing media houses of the state that it feels it can dictate what can or cannot be published or broadcasted".
"While we appreciate the efforts put in by all those who helped bring the temporary lifting of the blockade, we question why unions are so eager to take credit instead of merely rejoicing in the fact that the blockade has been lifted. After all, did Mahatma Gandhi ever claim responsibility for India's independence or did Nelson Mandela say that he was solely responsible for removal of apartheid in South Africa?", the APC and APUWJ reasoned.
The two press bodies further said that "if SUMA has problems with what the NESO adviser said then they should take it up with him. Such behaviour is a clear indication that they are merely trying to prey on the press who everyone perceives to be easy targets instead of challenging those it should".
"We have had enough of presidents and generals trying to shove their diktats down our collective throats. When these unions want newspaper column space they are extremely polite but the moment an opinion or statement expressed by a third person or party which goes against their belief gets published, they begin accusing the press of biasness", the strongly worded joint statement read, further adding that "while the notice has been served to one organisation, it should serve as a warning to all others who think that media persons are alone and can be easily dominated".

Death of Tania a national shame: Modi
IMPHAL, Feb 08: BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Saturday said the death of Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Tania in Delhi is a matter of national shame and asked the Centre and the Delhi government to shun their blame game on the issue and ensure justice for him.
He said such incidents further alienate the people of the northeastern states, which due to the "unfortunate policies" of the Congress have been neglected and have not developed in the last 60 years.
"It (the death of Nido Tania in Delhi) is a shameful incident for the nation. I offer my prayers for the boy and his family...There is lack of governance there. There are cases of atrocities on women.
"I hope the Government of India and the Government of Delhi come out of the blame
game and works towards ensuring justice for the young boy and his family," Modi said.

District level sensitization prog for Govt. officers & bankers

Business community in boundary area resolves to maintain peace

a joint peace meeting at Banderdewa (Assam side) in order to ensure smooth flow of

After the recent Tarasso incident which had badly affected business activities of both sides of the boundary, the business communities under the banner of the Banderdewa Bazaar Welfare Committee (BBWC), Bazaar Babsaye Sanstha Banderdewa (BBSB) Assam and Harmoty Bazaar Babsaye Sanstha (HBBS) have jointly organized the peaceful meeting for the first time at Banderdewa (Assam). The meeting assured business community and common public of both sides that they have been taking every step to maintain peace and tranquility in their respective areas since long time. Since the unfortunate incident of Tarasso, no any minor or major incident have been occurred in both sides because of their restless efforts and 24x7 vigilance duty of OC, Banderdewa PS and 1/C Banderdewa, Police outpost, Assam.
BBWC general secretary Kipa Hipik in a release further informed that both the Police Officers have assured the public and business community of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh of full cooperation for their safety and protection and requested to run the business smoothly. The release added that business communities from both sides have also appreciated the dedicated service of OCs of both police outposts of Assam and Arunachal in Banderdewa in maintaining peace.
Both BBWC president A K Loram and GS Kipa Hipik have also requested the public and business community of Arunachal Pradesh to keep doing business as usual. Asstt. Gen. Secy, Harmoty have offered to give all kind of support to normalize situation for the business in these areas.

PHE&WS conducts sensitization prog on NBA
ITANAGAR, Feb 08: Public Health Engineering and Water Supply (PHE&WS) sub-
Rallies were organized highlighting the importance of proper sanitation, safe drinking water and about formation of Village Water & Sanitation Committee (VWSC). The rallies were actively participated by the teachers and students of KGVB school.
Workshop was also conducted on handling of field testing kits (FTK) for the PRI members for quality monitoring and testing of various drinking water sources at rural area.
Koro Leyak, Consultant, Water and Sanitation, briefed about NBA while Tafang Bagang, Assistant Engineer, elaborated the aims and objectives of the programme, importance of safe drinking water, proper sanitation, health and hygiene and also formation of VWSC, its role at village level. He appealed to the PRI members to cooperate with department for smooth implementation of the various schemes and programmes at rural areas.
At Chayang Tajo, Tara Bagang, social worker attended the programme as resource person. He suggested the villagers to maintain proper sanitation and use safe drinking water to avoid various water borne disease like diarrhea, dysentery, jaundice etc.
Er. Raju Bagang, JE Chayang Tajo section asked participants to rear pigs in proper and hygiene manner and encouraged them to adopt low cost Individual Household latrine (IHHL), which is being funded by the government through PHE & WS Department
At Bameng, Gujjar, head master of KGVB, Bameng appreciated the PHED staff for conducting such awareness programme at remote outpost where people are still not aware about sanitation and health. He shared his 27 years of experience as a teacher at remote villages in East Kameng district and minutely briefed about importance of washing hand before and after eating, usage of sanitary toilet and education. He requested PRI members to play active role in guiding the local people as per the directives of government policies.
Pritam Waii, laboratory Assistant, demonstrated the handling on Field Testing Kits (FTK) to PRI members.
After the demonstration, FTK was distributed to each Gram Panchayat Segments of Chayang Tajo block and Bameng block.
Taring Mompak, JE Bameng section encouraged the participants to adopt IHHL. He also briefed about the challenges in implementing the NBA.
Chapi Riang, consultant (M&E) informed that PHED, Seppa will conduct more such sensitization programme and workshops at various remote circle headquarters at Khenewa, Sewa, Pipu, Gyawepurang, Pijirang.
Block coordinators Hokap Lamnio, Doni Sonam and Jarje Sono along with Harang Sonam, JE actively participated for successful conduct of the programme.

Inaugurating tournament in presence of sports enthusiasts and students, Daying Pao recalled immense contributions made by late Kolyan Pait and late Sanjeeb Bori (both of Oyan village) for development of games and sports in the area. Appreciating the tireless efforts of the organizing committee for conducting the trophy every year, Pao suggested the budding players to maintain discipline and sportsman spirit.
Pao hoped the tournament will provide a good platform to the budding players to show their hidden talents. He also urged the youths to do the best for maintaining interrelations between the people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Jakab Paron suggested the young sportspersons to maintain high sportsman spirit throughout the tournament while Jitendra Pait, the chief adviser of the organizing committee appealed all sections to extend cooperation for smooth conduct of the trophy.
The opening match was played between Sika Bamin Raising and RTCC (Ruksin) in which Ruksin team entered the next round by beating Sika Bamin team by 44 runs.
The trophy for this round is donated by Petor Mize of Oyan in memory of his late mother Yayong Mize. The winner will also get cash prize of Rs 20,000. The runners up team will be given Rs 10,000.
As many as 32 cricket teams from Ruksin, Pasighat, Mebo, Rengging under East Siang district besides Jonai and Silapthar in Assam are participating the trophy.
The semifinal and final tournament is scheduled to be held on February 21 and 24 respectively.
